Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is Mexican holiday celebrated on Nov 1st and 2nd to honor deceased loved ones. On these days the veil between the living and the dead is lifted, and the departed loved ones are invited to visit. Traditionally, sugar skulls are little skulls made from sugar, decorated and placed on alters as offerings to the deceased. Skulls are also said to represent rebirth into the next stage of life. If you like, you can make your sugar skull painting in honor of a loved one who has passed on. You can decorate it with things they loved, including favorite quotes, or things you'd like to say to them.
